Nobody here ever believes me when I say that my parents are really frugal. They make about $100,000 total a year, but they are not willing to spend more than $50 a week on food. My mom rarely buys fruits when she goes grocery shopping; instead she buys Ramen noodles and microwavable dinners. My parents and I eat Ramen noodles for breakfast nearly every morning, and we rarely eat out. When we do eat out, we only eat pizza or fast food. This may be really hard to believe, but I have NEVER been to a restaurant like Red Lobster or Bertucci's with my parents. In addition, my parents also made a rule not to flush the toilets in our home until it's nearly filled, or if one of us has pooped. I know it sounds ridiculous, but my parents think it saves a few dollars. Also, my parents rarely take me on vacation or to anywhere fun. The last time my parents and I went on vacation was in July of 2008. We went to Miami, but the trip was awful because we stayed at a private motel that cost $25 a night. My parents slept on the queen bed while I slept on the futon couch.I asked my parents if we could stay at Econo Lodge, which cost about $40 more but at least had two queen beds. They refused. I know I may sound like a spoiled brat to you, but I'm really not. I have never asked my parents to buy me anything remotely expensive. I bought my laptop and iPod Touch with the money I earned from working at a pizza place a few blocks away from where I live. Hi everyone, Thursday Jones has been urinating on my futon and I'm at my wit's end. I did ask this question a day or so ago and got an answer about mousetraps (which I'm afraid might hurt him, so I won't do), but I'm hoping other folks might have other ideas. I have gone so far as to email a local rescue to begin the process of putting TJ in the "owner foster" program, where he'll continue to live with me while the rescue lists him until a new owner is found. Here are the things I have tried to solve the couch-peeing problem: Veterinary exam and urinalysis -- Yes, he has a MILD UTI, and he did get an antibiotic injection for it. This was nearly 5 days ago. Since then, he's peed on the couch SIX more times! I thought surely I'd see a little improvement by now. Besides, this recent jig of him peeing on the couch hasn't been the only time. He's done this I'd say every couple of weeks for the past 2-4 months. He is neutered, and to my knowledge there are not any intact cats in the apartment complex. I've cleaned the couch with Nature's Miracle, hoping to remove any left-behind kitty smells. I have washed the decorative covers and replaced them SEVERAL times, cycling through my 3 covers. Since I put on the most recent clean futon cover, I found a plastic carpet-protector and laid it spiky-side up on the couch. A couple of days ago I left him here alone for a few hours with the carpet-protector on the couch, and came home to find a puddle on the plastic carpet runner! Clearly, having his paws poked by little plastic spikes does not bother him. In my 500 sq. ft apartment I have ONE cat and TWO litterboxes which are scooped EVERY day. The addition of the second litterbox just happened a couple of weeks ago after the LAST time he peed on the couch. One of the litterboxes is situated immediately next to the couch. It is a covered litterbox. The other litterbox is in an opposite corner, uncovered. I use Tidy Cats litter. I tried a feliway plug-in for about a month until the little oil canister ran out. I have not bothered to buy a refill, but I intend to go out today to get more feliway. (Should I get a diffuser refill or the feliway spray?) My veterinarian/boss has suggested possible behavioral medications -- i.e., buspirone or fluoxitine. I haven't done this yet but am seriously considering it. The past couple of days he's been staying in his "room" with litter box, food, water, toys, and bed when he's not supervised. It's the only way I can come home confident that he hasn't peed on anything. Is there ANYTHING ELSE I can do to get him to stop this?! I am exhausted and exasperated. more

Hi, My brother has been telling me about a scaly presence that started massaging him at night to the point where my brother looked forward to going to bed to get this massage. He has said the the spirit has followed him when he's left home. He is now saying that the spirit is nagging him and pokes him. He wants the spirit to stop now because its gone to far and the spirit won't. He tells me that he has to dress in lots of layers before going to bed because the spirit won't leave him alone. My brother has always been a sane person so I have a hard time not believing him. So my question is what kind of spirit would this be and how would he get rid of it. He's also an antique collector so I don't know if it could be an item that he brought into the home he seems to think it has to do with the futon he bought used. Our mother recently passed away also. Resolved Question: Bed Bugs - Legal Action against Roommate?

Okay I will try to summarize as best I can. I live on the first floor of a three family house. The landlord and his family (6 people total) live upstairs, they occupy the second and third floor. My floor has two bedrooms that a close friend of mine and I shared until March of 2009. I finally had another roommate move in at the end of May. By the end of June I started seeing bug bites on my ankles and legs. I didn't think too much of it at first, It would only be two or three of them, and not every night. It was summer, there are mosquitoes and the house I live in is older, strange bugs make appearances from time to time. By the end of July however I noticed more of them, and on the day I woke up w/more than a dozen bites I started researching. Bed Bugs came up in most searches, along w/fleas and chiggers. The other two are easily eliminated so I focused on the bed bugs. I couldn't however find any sign of them in my room the way that any of the sites I went to said to check for them. After a week of this I figured I must be overreacting. I went away for the second week of August and the bites pretty much stopped though, so my suspicions arose again, and by the end of that next week after vacation I finally spotted one next to my pillow in the early morning hours. I freaked of course. I notified my landlord that day who had his wife contact an exterminator immediately. They were unable to come out for a full week but I was just glad something was in the works. When I spoke to my roommate however that night, to ask him if he'd gotten any bug bites lately, his reply was 'oh yeah, I'd been meaning to ask you about that,' and went on to say he thought it might be something from my birds. (I have 4 conures, I'm meticulous w/their cages and sweeping/vacuuming of the area they're in. My oldest one is almost 14 years old and I've had them long enough to feel confident I'd recognize something this major w/them.) Needless to say I was a bit insulted but I didn't want to start anything, I just wanted the problem taken care of. I assured him it did not come from the birds, and that it was in fact bed bugs. We both started trying to think of where they would have come in. Neither of us have had any visitors from out of town over w/the exception of my mother, who doesn't have bed bugs and thankfully still doesn't even after her stay. I went away once but the friends I shared the hotel room with didn't have them, nor did the hotel as far as I know, since our bags were all in the same place during our stay how could I be the only one to bring them back? My roommate had gone away for a weekend but also to a friend's house, who doesn't have bed bugs. It wasn't until later in the week I realized the bites had started appearing very shortly after my roommate first moved in. He of course said no he didn't bring them or his last roommates would have called him or something. But he used to talk of how dirty they were and had people over all the time from different areas, some of them shady. I know bed bugs aren't only around dirty people, it can happen in the cleanest environment, but the way he spoke of them I could believe they'd be of the mindset that they wouldn't mind living with it. When the exterminators finally came however they confirmed that the infestation was mainly in his bedroom, the closet in particular was inundated w/them, and my bedroom was only the beginnings of an infestation, the spillover I suppose, since his had grown so large. Even as they stood there in front of my landlord, my roommate and myself and told us this news, he still denied it and blamed it on his brand new futon that came sealed and boxed from Ikea. Now okay sure I know there are stories of people getting them in store bought mattresses that aren't as new as advertised...but really? I just find it hard to believe in this case. I also still wonder how come he never once asked me about the bites. He HAD to have been getting them long long before I did, and only said he had them when I brought it up to him. If he truly believed they were from me and not him why would he not come say something immediately? Now for as far as the process getting ready for the spraying, I had double bagged up all my clothes, emptied my drawers, pulled all sheets, blankets, pillow cases, etc... off the bed, pulled the curtains down ...all of this in double bags. Vacuumed several times - the whole house (w/the exception of his room, thru all of this that's all I've ever asked him to take care of) Everything was washed and dried on the highest heat settings. My roommate did none of this, he carried his clothes out in open bins and walked it to the laundromat around the corner. Every three days since the first spraying - which was on September 2nd - I've vacuumed the entire house, pulling furniture away from walls and going under and around everything, into couch cushions, using the extension for base boardsBugs are still not gone, the exterminators are saying it has to be on our end, either we're bringing them in still or doing our own home remedy, which would void the warranty, coincidentally, and how do you prove you didn't? Also my roommate has just told me his retail job of 1 and a half months is transferring him...so he's gone by December 1st. We split the cost of the treatments so far, $500 each...but if it ends up we need a different exterminator I will be stuck paying more...is there any way I can legally have him held responsible for this w/the exterminators being able to confirm the major infestation was in his room and the first time the bites started appearing coinciding w/his moving in? more

I live in Minnesota and I want to re -do my room. I'm 13 year old girl and my room is really small so I was thinking of getting a convertible sofa. My sister, who is 19, is moving back home tomorrow, and so my family and I planned on going to her apartment, and getting her stuff, which included a futon, a bed, and some other minor things. She already had taken a lot of stuff home, so we really weren't going to be there for long. Before we even begin to leave, we start discussing who could get the futon. I needed it downstairs in the basement, because my friends and I have no where to sit when we chill down there. But, my sister's friend wanted it, and would buy it for $100 from my sister. All this time while we're discussing this, we are in the study. Well, we then head outside to the garage, because my dad smokes, and we wanted to carry on the conversation with him. So, when we're in the garage, my mom begins to talk about how, if I did get the futon, we would have to move the chairs all out that are down there (take in mind, they're real small computer chairs, that spin. And the basement is like, a 18 by 20.). I told my mother that I agree to an extent, and that was I would get rid of 2 chairs, but keep one down there, and my bean bag chair, so that my friends and I wouldn't be jammed all together onto one 6 foot long futon. She gets angry. She starts saying things like (quote on quote) "You're a packrat, and you won't even whipe your own ass you're so lazy. So no, all the chairs will leave the basement in exchange for the futon." My dad decides to jump on the band wagon, and basically reiterates what she had just said, but of course, being a dad, in more vulgar language. Well, I got mad, because they had no reason to gang up on me, and talk to me that way. I do not care if I am 15, and they are in their 40's. I am a human too, and I know where and when I deserve respect. And yes, being a human, I deserve respect, especially from my own family! So, I told them that I never attacked them, and that I didn't know why their being mean. And all my mother has to say is that,"You're being a smartass." This makes me think that she knew she was in the wrong, but didn't want to admit to it, so she comes back with something completely off the wall. So, since my parents don't mind expressing their opinions, I won't either. Right now, my parents are gone, but when they get home, I will voice my opinion, not once, but twice. And to each of them. My parents need a rude awakening. They think just because they're older than me, they can call me out, and say negative things about me when the situation doesn't call for it.. Well, I think my parents need to be taught a lesson because, after all, they just acted like children. My parents demand respect, but obviously can't dish some respect out to the people in their lives that deserve to receive the most of it: their family. So, I'm going to open their eyes, and show them that, hey. You know what, you are on to something. I am lazy! But, I would much rather be lazy, than a negative, money obsessed man. Or a woman who does nothing, but live, sleep, and talk about work (and their is NO exadgeration there). She went crazy and decided the I HAD to buy furniture (she is a very forceful person) SO we bought the furniture, she cosigned and said it would be a good way for me to build some credit. It was a 6 mt deferred payment plan. She told me that she was going to pay for half and I would pay for the other half. At that time she was also receiving an SSI check for my brother (because he was under 18 and in H.s) she would send off part of it and helped me pay half of the rent, but this help only lasted 6 months. To say the least my family is all screwed up! Anyway, she stopped sending money and I had to start paying for the rent and utilities on my own which ended up being ALOT of money. I dont have to mention that she never helped pay on the furniture (which I still owe on) So after talking to a "friend" he was telling me that he's in realestate and that he could help me get on my feet while improving my credit score, so when I graduate from college I would qualify for things! So I was to purchase a house and receive 6000 at closing 2000 of which would be invested in order to pay off the taxes for the year. I wasn't planning on living in the house for two more years, until I graduated from college. I used the 4000 to pay my rent in my apt for the rest of the year and that made my bills a lot more manageable for the time being, that was until I found out that the "management company" was not collecting the rent. Although I had been receiving NOTICES and receipts for payment! From what I understand the house went into foreclosure, I never even had a set of keys! I had known this guy since i was a little girl and I can't believe he scammed me. He's a close family friend! After reading up on the situation, Iearned that I was in the wrong for saying that I was going to live in the house when I wasn't planning to. Now I have a foreclosure and debt because of the furniture . I was just trying to make life normal for my little brother and I, but I ended up ruining mine! I don't know what to do, where to go, who to turn to! I dont have the financial stability to hire a lawyer and at this point I am being sued by HSBC for the furniture, but I have no way to pay them, nothing to pay them. I can't even settle because I don't have the money. I live in Michigan and finding a job is virtually impossible, literally I have applied everywhere from department stores to office buildings and no one wants me because of my lack of FULL TIME job experience (I have been a student and worked 35 hr/wk for the last 4 years) . I am entering college as freshman this fall, and my roommate and I are are taking a futon and television to our dorm. I have been laid off. Am single and have found a small part time job where I can earn no more than about $800/month. The place where I am staying I pay a rent of $700 which includes all utilities, food and laundry bills. I have a single room and shared facilities (bathroom, kitchen). I found a new place to live in where the rent is $500/month but food and cable is extra. It would include sharing a two bedroom place with a university student whom I do not know at all. Should I move into this new place ($500 rent) and save money or continue to live in my old place? I will also need to buy some furniture (table,2-3 chairs, futon, mattress) since the current place provides me with these facilities. I have no qualms about buying cheap second hand stuff on craigslist or Salvation Army. How much will all this cost? I will leave the town after 8-9 months and move to Europe where I will start a professional course. So that's the other thing to bear in mind while making my decision. Finally the living environment in my current place is getting very stressful with quarreling neighbours, noise etc. I feel depressed living here at times. What should I do? more

Resolved Question: My new ferret won't let me touch her and bites me hard! Anyone with experience?

Okay, so i know all about the right foods and that they are social and need to be played with, i know about neutering and bathing and vets and shots and my house is ferret proof (apartment thats almost empty, futon, no holes anywhere - i scoured the place, no stairs, doors and windows closed, child locks on cupboards, etc etc) and everything else. I'm just having a problem with getting close to her. I bought her yesterday, i brought her home in a travel cage with an old shirt of mine in it that i wore to bed the night before so she had my scent there to get used to. When we got home, i made sure it wasn't too bright or noisy, and sat quietly on the floor and opened the cage. I diidn't push her, let her come out on her own and just watched as she explored for a while and had a sniff. She never even had her tail poofed out, so i assumed she was pretty comfy. After a while she came to me and had a sniff, i spoke to her quietly and didn't move while she checked me out, then she went away for a bit. When she came back to me i waited till she had another little smell, then moved my hand slowly to pat her. I hadn't even touched her yet and she spun around and chomped me (not a nip, i had holes.) I know she wasn't trying to hurt me, and that i must have done something wrong. I scruffed her, said NO loudly and dragged her along the floor a little like i was told (something a mother does to the kits?) before putting her in timeout in her cage for a short time. I let her out again after about 10 mins, and she came to me, where she immediatley latched onto my toes. I went to scruff her again and she rolled over and tried to bite my hand, but i managed to get the scruff, and repeated the drag and time out. I left her for a while the second time to calm down. All day today, if i let her out she immediatley tries to bite me, or will chase me until i stop and then chomp my toes and ankles. If i try to pat her or pick her up so she doesn't get my toes, she latches onto my hand like she means it. I have repeated the scruff and drag, loud NO and time out repeatedly, but she appears to be getting worse and bites harder every time. I have tried distracting her with a dingly ball and fuzzy toy or food, but she ignores it and tries to bite my hand. She even climbed up my shirt and tried to have my ear. I know she isn't meaning to be nasty, and i won't give up, but i have so many little teeth holes in me already!!! :) Have you experienced a biter before, and if so what do you suggest? more

Before I start PLEASE READ EVERYTHING. I know there are a lot of questions like this but this is a pretty specific situation and I feel like I might get a lot of irrelevant answers about things I have already tried... First of all I have two cats, Harley and Selina, both females, littermates, just had their first birthday yesterday. They have been in heat back and forth for a month and a half now and they are getting spayed next week. Every time Harley goes into heat (and only when she is in heat) she pees on the furniture. After almost two months its seriously driving me crazy!! A few weeks ago while she was in heat she was doing it more than usual and it turned out that she did have a UTI, she spent a night at the vet, went on antibiotics, and had a follow up where they confirmed that she was rid of the infection. But the next time she was in heat she continued to pee on the furniture. She still uses the litterbox to poop, and she doesn't pee exclusively outside the box. She pees on the bed or couch maybe once or twice a day. We have three litterboxes, so we clean them every two or three days. As a kitten Selina also peed on the bed/couch/blankets, but we solved that problem by buying more than one litter box, switching litter brands, cleaning more often, etc. We have tried all of the same things for Harley. Selina hasn't had a problem since then, and like I said Harley ONLY does it when she is in heat (which is consistently every other week). Since they are getting spayed I am hoping this will solve the problem. Until then I was wondering if there if anything I can else I can do to discourage her from peeing on the furniture (that I haven't already tried)? Specifically is there anything that I can put on the spots she's peeing to maybe discourage her from doing it? Also I've been cleaning my furniture and rotating and washing sheets and comforters like almost every other day while she is in heat, is there any way to get the smell out that really works? (My mom is coming to visit this week and she has to sleep on the futon! :\) more

I’ve been seeing this guy for about two months. I have always been amazed by how seriously he took his hobby. He have bunches of aquarium in his house. Almost every room has at least one or two in it. There’s also a couple aquarium built in the wall. He also have all kind of fish in different tanks and organize most of them according to what part of the world the fish are from and everything. He also tries to make it look like as if it is exactly as what you would see in wild. He even has one room that has nothing in it but tanks with a futon in center of the room. His bedroom has a huge tank at foot of the bed as well. Once, when we went to a aquarium store, he stays in it for a hour and he even refused to buy a fish for variety odd reason. He will only buy a fish as young as he could get it and he’d make sure they have no rip in fin or anything. He later told me that he go to various aquarium store about once every two weeks or so. He also feed his fish all kind of stuff. He has cabinet full of all kind of different fish foods. He’s also a member of a couple aquarium clubs. He had had an aquarium ever since he was six years old. He doesn’t even have a television, he have a huge fish tank in place of where television normally would be. I can’t help it but wonder why would he need all of this? Is this type of thing common with someone who do aquarium as a hobby? more
